Who is the CRBS?The CRBS was established by the Scottish Executive to provide free Disclosures for volunteers in the voluntary sector who work with children, young people and vulnerable adults. CRBS acts on behalf of the voluntary sector to process Disclosure applications. In the Code of Practice for Registered Persons and Other Recipients of Disclosure Information (Disclosure Scotland, 2002) CRBS is referred to as the “Umbrella organisation for the voluntary sector.” CRBS registers voluntary organisations and processes their requests for Standard and Enhanced Disclosures (not Basic) through to Disclosure Scotland. Registration is free of charge for voluntary organisations as are all Disclosure applications made on behalf of volunteers working within the voluntary sector. A charge of £20.00 is applied to Disclosure applications made on behalf of paid staff within the registered organisation. CRBS processes Disclosure applications for all volunteers, engaged by voluntary organisations who work in Scotland including applications on behalf of national volunteer organisations whose headquarters are based in England and Wales, who have volunteers working in Scotland. National volunteer organisations are therefore required to register with CRBS for volunteers who work in Scotland and the Central Registered Body (CRB) in England for their volunteers who work in England and Wales.
