Elements of a Volunteer Task Description

  • Title of the position.
  • Purpose of the position within the context of the organisation.
  • Range of tasks to be carried out.
  • Commitment required in terms of time.
  • Location of the opportunity.
  • Relationship between volunteers and any paid staff.
  • Beneficiaries of the voluntary work (the groups that the volunteer will work with).
  • Support and accountability including who will supervise the volunteer; who the volunteer will be accountable to and what training will be necessary and available.
  • Recognition of the volunteer within the organisation.
  • Expectations on the volunteer in terms of initiative, independence and team work.
  • Level of Disclosure check required for the position.
